There are so many events happening for women’s day this year, I thought I’d share the ones that I have found with you. I wish I could attend them all!
Stellenbrau Women’s Run
This one is first because it’s the event that I’ll be attending. A 5kn run/walk at the Stellenbrau brewery in Stellenbosch, with 2 beer stops along the way. My fiance loves craft beer and I love fun runs so this is the perfect option for us. Here’s hoping we’re blessed with a fantastic day in the country.

TotalSport’s Women’s Race
This event happens annually, in Durban, Joburg and Cape Town. We’re lucky enough to have it on Women’s Day which is just fantastic. You get an awesome Tee, and a bracelet when you’re done. Not to mention the amazing views of Cape Town’s streets as you run through them. The run is organised by Pink Drive and is in aid of Breast Cancer.
Cost: R80 pp

Empower Me Women’s Day Lunch at Shimmy Beach Club
This event has me suffering serious FOMO. Spend your Women’s day being inspired by strong, leading females, and enjoy canapes and a two-course meal. Oh, that’s not all. You also get to indulge in pamper stations, welcome drinks, goodie bags (my weakness), live DJs, pop-up shopping, giveaways… Sigh. If only I was richer. Does anybody have a rich aunt that would like to adopt me? Kfm will also be at this event so you’ll get to hopefully rub shoulders with some their super cool presenters.
Cost: R450 pp

Doek on Fleek and Moyo Restaurant Women’s Day Celebration
This event is hosted by Doek On Fleek Lifestyle, and it looks like it’s going to be an amazing event. The event is exclusively for ladies, and you need to go dressed in all white WITH a doek. Apparently, those without doek will not be served the scrumptious buffet breakfast that Moyo will be serving. The venue is the perfect fit for this event, Moyo has long embraced traditional dress and culture, and this is sure to be a morning full of vibrant culture.
Cost: R240 pp

Another amazing opportunity to spend some time in the company of amazing women. With lady speakers that are taking over the world and a delicious 2-course meal – good food is definitely on the table for this public holiday.

Hello ladies! And gents, of course. THIS is how you need to end off your Women’s day. Granted you may have work the next day so go easy on the cocktails and body shots. Five Drag Queens, One Stage… The drama is inevitable! Seriously, though, I absolutely adore the beefcakes vibe, and the drag artists are flipping amazing. This show should be phenomenal.
Cost: R80 pp

Celebrating the Wonder of Women For CANSA
Another event I’d have loved to attend. It’s for CANSA so we know the money is being used for good. You can enjoy mingling with amazing women while being entertained by live music. Refresh yourself with some light snacks and drinks and get involved in the self-defence demonstration.
Cost: R400 pp (group discounts apply)
9 August Women’s Day @The Winter Market on The Lawns
For a more simple event, you could find yourself walking through this market in camps bay. Pack a picnic and come shop for quaint products. There’s music, food and hopefully a sunny day full of fresh Cape Town air.
Cost: free entrance
Women’s Day Yoga Event at The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa
Even if I was rich, I still wouldn’t be able to do all I wish to do, because this is the FOURTH thing I absolutely wish I could take part in. A night’s stay in Twelve Apostles Hotel with a yoga instructor. A day of just relaxing, yoga, eating, yoga, swimming in Twelve Apostles amazing pool… This is the life, truly. Check in on the 8th August, look forward to a 3-course dinner AND wine pairings. A full English breakfast will start your Women’s day, plus you have access to the spa, so hello pampering in between Yoga sessions. And each guest will receive a surprise gift hamper. I am crying as I type this. Please, send me photos!

Oh right, yet another event I wanted to attend. Can I just become an octopus already?! Start with a beach run or walk, and a clean up as you go. Then move on to Stand Up Paddle Boarding and Bodyboarding activities, and wind down by 11:30 with some beach yoga. Bliss.

Other ways to feel special this Women’s Month
Learn how to change a tyre
Tyger wheel and Tyre have a ladies workshop annually, where they teach you how to take care of your tyres, how to change a tyre, and all about insurances that can keep you safe in emergencies when driving. We have been twice and both times it was a morning of laughs with the guys, some awesome snacks and the cutest goodie bags making us all feel so special. Oh and great coffee! Plus I learnt things like where to check my brake fluid, and that I can put nitrogen in my tyres, and other smart stuff that I can use to show the guys that us girls aren’t dumb about cars. Find out on Twitter where your closest workshop will be.
Free the beer
Newlands brewery is offering free beer tours to all ladies from the 7 – 11th August. It usually costs R100 pp so you can take your guy with as long as he’s willing to pay. The tour takes you through the brewery with an interactive guide on the process of how the beers are made, from grain to bottle. Then you head to the pub for a proper SAB beer tasting and finish off with a beer or two (they have corona and brutal fruit if you don’t do the average beers). It’s really interesting, great fun and makes for a pretty cool date night.
There you have it. This isn’t all of the events, of course, there are so many more on offer. Cape Town truly is a magical place to live as a woman in August. What will you be doing this Women’s day?
