We were extremely spoilt for our first BlogBoss meetup. The brands that chose to work with us and added to our goody bags were so generous, and most of them were brands that I already admired. Our bloggers attending the event were all really happy with their treasures to take home, here’s what we got:
Not just our venue, Cup & Cake sponsored a voucher to one lucky blogger. Their food is absolutely amazing, and the owner Sonja is so accommodating. This was my second event booking with her and both times she has been able to accommodate my needs.
Situated at Eden on Big Bay, this coffee shop not only has great breakfast views but the decor inside is a mix of vintage chic and it really does make the most relaxing environment. They have WiFi too, so you can take your laptop and do some work while you enjoy their pancake special and amazing coffee.
Created by Louisa Vermaak in 2017, I believe this brand is going places. It’s a single serving drip filter coffee bag. Basically, it’s one cup of coffee, filter coffee, in a bio-degradable bag that you put over your coffee mug, pour hot water through and voila! a cup of delicious coffee ready to go.
Perfect if you’re going camping, or if you’re visiting friends who have really bad taste in coffee. I also love the fact that it makes for a great gift. I often find myself wishing that I had an obsession with tea rather than coffee because there are so many novel gifts for tea drinkers. Now there’s something for coffee lovers too.
Yes, more caffeine! Hey, we’re bloggers, most of us with day jobs so we need to blog at night (as I’m doing right now) we need all the caffeine we can get. Zang is a chocolate bar that helps us fight sleep. I am quite in love with the brand, it’s fun and quirky values and the product itself is divine.
We all know and love Ina Paarman products. They help us look like professional bakers when really we just followed the steps on the box, right? We were lucky enough to get a packet of meringue mix and a SIGNED cookbook. Each one of our 20 bloggers’ book individually signed. So special. I haven’t yet tried my hand at making the meringues… I will soon.
ABC, as they are affectionately known, is where the cool kids go to work out. It’s a bunch of ladies (not sure if guys join as well actually) that work out Bootcamp-style outside. They have multiple locations, and you can choose to go to one class at a time or join a program like their new summer challenge.
They were kind enough to give all of our bloggers one free class, allowing us to go check them out and see if it’s something we’d like to continue. Personally, I have been wanting to try it for a while now, I just need to find a suitable time. Technically I could go to the super early one but I still haven’t convinced myself to wake up at 5am.
We got a peanut butter bar (which I, unfortunately, couldn’t eat but Dean was more than happy to finish for me) and a bowl of oats from Nutristart. So I’m not really a breakfast person either. I tasted it, because I am as curious as a cat, but had to give the rest of that too Dean as well. Good news is that he enjoyed it!
I had never really heard of MooGoo before, but their range of natural skin products interested me as soon as they came on board as sponsors. Their products are made in Australia. This brand is eco-friendly, natural and family-owned. Why wouldn’t you support them?
Hey Baby sponsored a variety of their foods to us, but since I don’t have any babies around, I can only tell you about their amazing rice cakes! I saw ‘gluten-free’ and other such words on the box and thought “oh great, here’s a box of cardboard chips”. When I tasted them, though, they definitely didn’t taste like cardboard chips! They actually taste amazing.
You can eat these rice crisps so many ways. We cut up some cheese and cold meats and made little cracker sandwiches. I wished I had cream or cottage cheese because I imagine that would taste like heaven. And they’re healthy! So we feel ok eating a whole box (kind of).
Blue route mall came to my personal rescue when they surprised us with sponsoring 10x car phone holders and 10x really cool water bottles. So half of our bloggers got the phone holder and the other half got bottles. I got a phone holder and was extremely grateful. All of those car trips where I need my maps to tell me where to go and have to balance the phone on that little ledge in front of the gearbox, no longer will those struggles be a part of my life!
Blue Route also gave us awesome material shopper bags for all the bloggers, which not only helped us with the goodie bags but also means we all have more reason to not use plastic bags.
We got more awesome shopper bags from Brand Innovation, and these were a fantastic bright orange – which fitted right into our spring theme. They also sent through pretty cool green pens. I am a bit of a pen freak. I love pens. You could literally give me 100 pens and nothing else and I’d be happy. Did I mention we got pens???!
I was quite excited when I heard what this product was all about. So basically, it’s a new company. The product that we were given to try is a cream made with aloe and some other good natural stuff. These ingredients are meant to help with things like skin irritations, rashes, and eczema.
I sometimes battle with eczema and this year has been quite bad. It usually just affects my fingers and/or toes, and currently, I have multiple little red, itchy, burning spots on my toes. So as soon as I saw It Workx, I couldn’t wait to try it. So far, it has yet to cure my eczema but it hasn’t itched in 24 hours. I did a full review here.
The lovely owner of La Donne Spa spoilt us with cuticle pens in our goody bags. This was another product that suited me so well. My cuticles are always giving me issues. And I have tried cuticle oils, but those are so messy. With these pens, it’s so easy to apply. I didn’t even know it existed!
I also had a look at Donna’s spa and treatments and I can’t wait to book her for some pampering soon!
We got amazing kliketyklikbox™ boxes made by the fabulous ladies from All Women Recycling. These boxes were originally 2l cold drink bottles. They’re recycled and made into pretty little boxes that perfectly hold tiny items for you. I have mine on my desk holding my flash drives.
Sugar and vice gifted each blogger an amazing vinyl wall decal, as well as a cute sticker and card. Their designs are so pretty. I really want to stick my wall sticker up above my desk in the office, but our walls need repainting so… I just can’t bear to put it up before the wall is in better condition.
Office revamp coming. Watch this space!
Gudco gave us all a roll of toilet paper made from sugar cane. This seemed like an odd item inside the goodie bag, but anything eco-friendly makes me all excited so this was a welcomed gift. I haven’t opened mine yet, been quite busy. But I’ll be sure to give an update when I have.
I have never been much of a gin person. I always thought it smelled bad and was too bitter. But since tasting Bloedlemoen, both Dean and myself have become gin fans. The gin has a real fruity taste to it and mixed with the chinchona tonic it was the best after dinner chill-out drink. I got fancy and cut up some orange to put in mine. Soooo divine!
The tonic came with the gin. We had so much left over though, so I tried it with my bubblegum sours… perhaps not the classy way to drink it, but it tasted pretty great. I’ve also been watching this brand on social media and they’re bringing out a pink tonic… yes please!
Falkon tyres were kind enough to give us water bottles. Those always come in handy, whether we’re working out, volunteering or going on a fun run, we constantly need new water bottles. It’s also a great way to cut down on disposable plastic.
So Tyger Wheel gave us all lanyards, which are one of those items that you always kinda need, but never really have. Like, I don’t even really know where to buy lanyards so…. it’s gonna come in handy. BUT, more importantly, they gave us all a voucher for R250 off specific things. I know that my voucher is going towards wiper blades! With the amazing rain in Cape Town lately, I have learnt just how bad my wipers are on my little lawnmower car, so the vouchers came at the perfect time.
Faircape sent each blogger home with a tub of their delectable chocolate mouse and some of their full cream chocolate milk. Seriously, this is the king of chocolate milkshakes. It’s super creamy, really rich and tastes like that chocolate river that Willy Wonka had in is factory (or at least what I always imagined it would taste like).
We also got a few samples of Vitaderm skincare range. I’m sure I’ve already mentioned how bad I am with skin routines and anything ‘self-care’ related. But I am working on that, and I truly can’t wait to give myself the time to try them out. I’ve heard good things.
We also received the cutest morse code bracelets made by my mother-in-law, and a few herbalife vouchers and prizes. As well as a delectable cookie from DoubleTree by Hilton. All-in-all we walked away from the day spoilt in both products and company. It was way more of a success than we imagined and it’s so nice to know that there is an entire tribe of bloggers around us who we can share our blogging journeys with, as well as a fair number of brands who chose to believe in us.
If you’re reading this and getting FOMO, keep an eye out on my blog, as well as Fun Mamma SA and our BlogBoss Facebook page to see when our next meetup is happening! We’ll also be holding smaller more informational workshops to keep the community going. Our next one will be how to create a media kit, a vital part of any blogger’s life if you are wanting to work with brands.
A big thanks to Sam’s Divinity Photography for most of these spectacular images!
